Terrain & Methods
Hunting is tailored to each client's needs and may combine walk-and-stalk, spot- and-stalk from a vehicle, or glassing from ground or high tower blinds — our open properties allow several ways to get within range for a clean, well-placed shot.
Physical Expectations
Hunters should be prepared for extended walking over uneven ground. Each day is paced to the hunter's fitness level and species priorities.
Hunt Length
Most plains-game safaris run 5 to 10 days, depending on species list, hunting arrangement and group size.
WEAPONS & EQUIPMENT
What To Bring & How We Hunt
Bow Hunting
Kalahari Safaris welcomes bowhunters, with well-built blinds positioned in game-rich areas to support a successful hunt. Bring all necessary spares and repair items for your bow — equipment such as a replacement bowstring can be very difficult to source or repair in the field.
Rifle Hunting & Calibers
Standard deer-class hunting rifles suit our plains game well. A .243 and a 7mm together cover the full range of available species, and ammunition for these common calibers can usually be sourced locally if needed. We recommend bringing two rifles in case of a scope or mechanical issue, and premium controlled-expansion bullets such as Nosler Partitions. Up to 100 rounds per rifle may be brought.
Optics
A variable 3–9x scope suits most plains-game hunting, and our open terrain accommodates hunters comfortable at longer range. A good pair of binoculars is used constantly throughout the hunt — models such as the Swarovski 10x40 EL with rangefinder are a popular choice among our hunters.
Shotguns & Bird Hunting
Shotguns are welcome, with a 12 gauge recommended. Bird species available include guinea fowl, sand grouse, doves, ducks and geese, among others. Let us know ahead of time so a bird-hunting session can be built into your itinerary. Up to 100 rounds are permitted.
